Visvapani
When Maitreya Buddha arrives in the future, he will be accompanied by
two other figures, Amoghasiddhi Buddha and Visvapani Bodhisattva.
These three will be a trinity similar to the trinity of Shakyamuni
Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, and Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
Maitreya will function as the Nirmanakaya Buddha,Visvapani will represent
the Samboghakaya, and Amogasiddhi will be in the Dharmakaya position.
In addition, Green Tara will be the consort of Amoghasiddhi.
Little is known about Visvapani Bodhisattva and there are few mentions of
him in Buddhist literature. His name comes from Visva, the Sanscrit word for
double dorje or vajra. Thus his name means something like “holder of the double dorje”.
His color is said to be green, like that of his family Buddha, Amoghasiddi.
In a few thangkas of Amoghasiddhi, Visvapani is shown standing at the right of the
Buddha and is multicolored, but usually he is depicted as green.
